LCOC History & Overview
Working together for each other
Lubec Community Outreach Center is a non-profit founded in 2012 with the mission to develop and implement quality programs within our community. LCOC strives to enhance the quality of life – enriching the place we live, learn, work, and play – through services supportive and available to all children, youth, adults, and seniors.
LCOC began its work in 2012 with our two core youth programs: the summer recreation program and the after school program. Both programs have positively affected over 90% of the youth in our community and dozens of children in neighboring communities.
In the summer of 2014, LCOC began two new programs, TEAMwork and GetGrowing. These programs provide leadership training to teens as they build gardens in the local community as well as a school garden. The school garden continues to be utilized by both the after school and summer recreation programs. Some of the harvested food goes to the food pantry that is also offered by LCOC.
On top of the Lubec Community Food Pantry, LCOC offers a student food pantry, "Hornet's Hearth," which offers weekend food for families with children in the Lubec school system grades pre-k through 8. Approximately one-third of the students participate in this pantry. LCOC also provides an annual holiday celebration and dinner for seniors and veterans which served 150 people in 2015. We are looking forward to expanding services and activities to seniors in the future.
