Youth Summer Recreation
Program Description
Since 2012, the Summer Recreation Program has offered a six-week program of enriching, educational, and fun activities for the children in the Lubec area. The program is available for children ages 4-12 and scholarships are available, which allows children of the Lubec/Trescott area to attend. On any given day during the program 40 to 70 children can be found at LCOC.
The lead program staff have been with the program since the beginning, each year we look offer local high school and college age persons summer employment and they are trained in working with children. Community members volunteer and offer their services in many activities, some including: the arts, science and literacy, nutrition education, and physical activities.
Field trips are taken each year during the program utilizing every educational and recreational activity available in Washington County and beyond. We have visited places as close as the Downeast Institute for Applied Marine Research & Education on Beals Island to as far away as the Planetarium at UMaine in Orono. Many of the children have never been beyond Machias and we are certain these experiences helped broaden their world views.
The registration packet can be found below.
In partnership with the Bay of Fundy International Marathon we offer a mini Summer Recreation Day to support the runners. The registration packet for marathon day is below. If you have any questions please call 207-733-LCOC.
